Contemporary author: Michael Crichton – I just wish his estate had left “Micro” amongst his papers as an unfinished project.
Old school author: Isaac Asimov – Of course.
Genre other than science fiction: Historical Fiction – History always ran a close second to science on my list of favorite subjects.
Historical fiction novel: Northwest Passage by Kenneth Roberts – Really, really old school, but really, really good.
Alternate history novel: Gettysburg by Newt Gingrich – Please, no politics. Gingrich is a former history professor and his description of the first day of fighting is riveting and, I believe, historically accurate. His description of what follows afterward, when Lee decides to back off and let the Union forces come to him (unlike what he actually did) is also riveting and totally plausible. Confession: This is my first alternate history novel, but I had to mention it – it’s that good.
Romantic movie: Kate and Leopold – Hey! I’m a simple man with simple tastes. This thing worked from beginning to end – in and out in 80 minutes.
Ice cream: Frozen Pudding – That’s right, I said frozen pudding. Wanna make somethin’ of it?
